The dividend amount is added to the cash position in the portfolio the day after the dividend payment day.
The price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio is the ratio of a company's share price to its earnings per share. It shows the stock market value for 1 unit (USD/EUR/CHF etc) of profit of a company. A high P/E ratio could mean that a company's stock is overvalued or that investors expect high growth rates in the future. Companies with no earnings or that lose money do not have a P/E ratio because there is nothing to put in the denominator.
For equities, we have data from approximately 15 June 2016 or from whenever the equity started trading on a public market, whichever is the latter. For funds, we have data from 1 May 2021 or from the moment the fund was added to the platform, if later than 1 May 2021.
The very generic answer to this would be: the next time the relevant market closes and an official closing price is published for the security which you are trying to buy (or sell). Example 1: You want to buy a share in Volkswagen and you enter the order while the market is open (in this case the opening hours of the German exchange Xetra). Your order will be 'filled' (i.e. executed) using the closing price for Volkswagen at the end of that day. Example 2: You enter an order to buy Volkswagen in the evening after the close of the market: the order will be filled on the close of the next trading day. So an order entered Tuesday evening would be filled Thursday morning using the Wednesday evening closing price. Example 3: You enter an order after the markets are closed on Thursday evening. In this case the order would be executed using the Friday closing price. But the official closing price is not published until Monday morning so it is then when you will see your Thursday evening trade getting executed. Example 4: For funds it may take longer. The same principle applies as described earlier but funds sometimes take a bit longer to publish their 'closing price' (which is actually called their NAV). In the extreme case whereby funds only publish NAVs once per quarter it may take quite a while for you to see your order getting filled. At UMushroom we monitor all the orders so when we see that an order is getting delayed for reasons other than the ones explained above, we will investigate and potentially let you know what is going wrong (could be a number of reasons: delisting of shares, unwinding of a fund, etc).
Duration is a sensitivity indicator that measures how strongly a bond reacts to changes in interest rates. If interest rates fall, the price of a bond rises because it becomes more attractive compared to market interest rates and vice versa. The higher the duration, the more a bond's price will drop when interest rates rise. If a bond has an interest rate of 0%, the duration corresponds to the remaining time to maturity.
Bonds are fixed-income securities with a predetermined annual interest rate and maturity. Bonds are generally considered lower-risk investments whose interest rate depends on the credit rating of the issuer and the time to maturity. At the end of the term, the original investment amount is paid back to the lender.
Currently, you can't trade your selected stocks, funds, ETFs directly through UMushroom. You need to send your positions to your bank or broker via email or plug them in your e-banking. We are working on a solution which will allow you to connect your UMushroom account to your broker account and trade automatically through UMushroom.
Growth stocks are shares of companies that have expected sales and revenue growth that is above the average market growth. These stocks usually do not pay a dividend, as the profit of the company is typically reinvested in further growth.
Value stocks are shares of mostly mature companies with a stable dividend issuance, that are perceived to trade below their fundamental value. Common indicators for value stocks are high dividend yields and a low P/E-Ratio.
Delisted stocks don't disappear. The ownership remains, it is however more difficult to buy and sell delisted assets, since they aren't traded publicly anymore but over the counter (OTC). Depending on the reason for the delisting, it may affect the price, leading either to a potential loss/devaluation of investments (involuntary delisting due to financial issues) or a potential payout / other benefits (voluntary delisting for strategic reasons).
Our investment universe allows you to invest in a broad variety of global stocks, funds and ETFs. Cryptos are coming soon on the platform too. Though, your choices should be aligned with your investment objectives. You can make investment decisions based on your risk tolerance and whether you want to invest actively or passively. Dividend payments from shares and distributing funds allow you to build up a passive source of income. The browse function on UMushroom helps you tailor your search in the various asset categories according to your preferences.
ETFs are exchange-traded funds. They are traded like shares during trading hours and belong to the group of funds that aim to track an index. They offer a return as close to the benchmark index as possible. They are passively managed and, unlike active funds, incur no expensive fees for fund management.
The stock exchange brings together buyers and sellers of shares. You can think of the stock exchange as an auction where buyers and sellers place their bids. The asking price is the price at which sellers are willing to sell. The price the buyers are willing to pay is called the bid price. The difference between the two prices is called the spread.
That depends on your investment goals. Even though investments in the capital market tempt you with attractive profits, they are also associated with a risk of loss. If you are a beginner, consider investing with an amount that does not affect your daily living standards. A widely used approach is to invest about 10-15% of your income. You can invest this amount monthly to benefit from the dollar-cost averaging of your investments.
You can imagine a fund as a pool of money committed for a specific purpose. This purpose can range from professional investing to a renovation fund for your apartment building. Investment funds use the money collected to buy a selected basket of shares, for example. By investing in an investment fund, you, as an investor, also hold shares in the stocks it contains. Investment funds are either active or passive. Active funds attempt to achieve a higher return than the index they follow through active management. Passive funds usually only track the index they follow to perform almost identically.
A stock is a share in a company that makes you a partial owner of the company in proportion to the number of shares you own.
A portfolio is a basket of investment instruments, such as stocks, funds or ETFs. Your UMushroom portfolio displays your investments in an overview and shows your portfolio's performance. Professional investors build portfolios to reduce the overall risk of their investments whilst keeping a certain level of return.
Since the money in your savings account barely generates any returns these days, it makes sense to look elsewhere for alternative sources of profit. If you keep your goals in mind, you'll quickly realise that you can't get far without learning to invest. Investing in your savings can help you accumulate capital for your retirement or reach a specific financial goal sooner. Investing in the capital market involves higher risks than a savings account, compensating the investor with higher returns in the long run.
Remember the old saying, "don't put all your eggs in one basket"? Well, diversification is the investment equivalent to this. Diversifying your portfolio reduces the risk of being stuck with one bad investment by spreading it across various assets in your portfolio.
