The US medtech company Tandem Diabetes Care has become a leading player in diabetes care within just 15 years, with approximately 420,000 customers worldwide (1), by developing one game-changing product: the t:slim insulin pump. As opposed to the classic pen, this small device that attaches to the body and delivers insulin automatically or on demand considerably improves the quality of life for patients with type 1 diabetes. When connected to Dexcom's continuous glucose monitoring system, the Tandem insulin pump creates a kind of artificial pancreas that adjusts insulin release based on the patient's glucose level (2, p.42).
