Application Blockchain Interface (ABCI): ABCI is an interface that defines the boundary between the replication engine (the blockchain) and the state machine (the application). It allows Tendermint BFT to connect to blockchain applications, enabling the creation of blockchain applications in any language and making it possible to swap out the consensus layer of any existing blockchain stack.
