Despite the volume decreases, the company achieved substantial revenue growth through effective pricing strategies and cost management initiatives.

Sales Volume Decline

In the first nine months of Fiscal Year 2024/25, Barry Callebaut Ltd experienced an overall sales volume decrease of 6.3%, with a more pronounced decline of 9.5% in the third quarter. Global Chocolate volumes fell by 5.1%, and Global Cocoa volumes decreased by 11.3%, reflecting reduced market demand and strategic prioritization towards higher-return segments.

Revenue Growth

The company achieved significant revenue growth of 56.7% in local currencies (49.5% in CHF) during the nine-month period. This increase was driven by the successful pass-through of higher cocoa prices, managed effectively through Barry Callebaut’s cost-plus pricing model.

Regional Performance

Latin America emerged as the strongest region with an 8.3% volume increase, supported by innovative customer solutions. In contrast, North America faced a 5.8% volume decrease in Q3 due to tariff-related uncertainties and challenging demand conditions. Western Europe also saw a significant volume decline of 6.8%, impacted by higher cocoa bean prices and SKU rationalization.

Strategic Initiatives and Guidance

Barry Callebaut continues to advance its BC Next Level strategy, focusing on building an agile and scalable model while resetting its cost base. The company has revised its Fiscal Year 2024/25 guidance to anticipate an overall volume decrease of around 7%, alongside a mid to high single-digit increase in EBIT. An action plan is in place to achieve deleveraging and enhance resilience against cocoa bean price volatility.
