Orders and Order Book Growth

In the third quarter of 2024, Vaisala Oy reported a significant increase in orders received, totaling EUR 150.8 million, which represents a 26% growth compared to the same period in the previous year. The order book at the end of the period reached an all-time high of EUR 220.4 million, marking a 33% increase. This growth was driven by strong performance in both the Weather and Environment and Industrial Measurements business areas, with notable contributions from a large weather radar order to Spain.

Net Sales and Operating Result

Vaisala Oy's net sales for the third quarter of 2024 increased by 5% year-over-year, reaching EUR 136.6 million. The operating result for the quarter was EUR 24.1 million, which is 17.7% of net sales. Despite the increase in net sales, the operating result saw a slight decrease compared to the previous year due to higher operating expenses, including one-off expenses related to mergers and acquisitions.

Earnings and Cash Flow

For the third quarter of 2024, Vaisala Oy reported earnings per share of EUR 0.53, up from EUR 0.51 in the same period the previous year. Cash flow from operating activities also showed improvement, amounting to EUR 25.2 million compared to EUR 18.5 million in the third quarter of 2023. This positive cash flow was supported by strong order intake and efficient operational management.

Year-to-Date Performance

From January to September 2024, Vaisala Oy's orders received increased by 11% to EUR 421.2 million, while net sales were slightly up by 1% at EUR 397.1 million. The operating result for this period was EUR 54.9 million, representing 13.8% of net sales. The company experienced strong growth in the Weather and Environment business area, particularly in the meteorology and power and energy market segments.

Outlook for 2024

Vaisala Oy maintains its full-year 2024 outlook, estimating net sales to be in the range of EUR 540–570 million and the operating result (EBIT) to be between EUR 68–78 million. The company anticipates continued growth in the power and energy, and liquid measurements markets, while expecting stability in the more mature markets such as meteorology, aviation, and roads. The market for renewable energy is also expected to remain stable.
