The general objective of the Emerging Markets Fund is to grow the real value of investors' capital and income over a minimum period of 3 years. The fund focuses on investments in companies operating or incorporated in emerging markets, with an equal emphasis on income generation and capital growth.

The Emerging Markets Fund has discretion to invest in any geographical area and economic sector, with at least 50 per cent of the fund allocated to shares of companies operating or incorporated in emerging markets. Emerging Markets are defined as countries progressing towards becoming advanced, typically characterized by some development in financial markets, the presence of a stock exchange, and a regulatory body. The fund may also invest in depository receipts issued by companies quoted on these markets, and may temporarily shift to gilt-edged stocks and overseas fixed interest investments when the outlook for emerging market securities is deemed unfavorable.
