Hapag-Lloyd AG reported strong financial results for the first quarter of 2025, demonstrating significant growth in revenue and profitability compared to the same period in the previous year. Despite facing operational challenges due to port issues and geopolitical tensions, the company’s strategic initiatives and increased transport volumes have driven positive performance.

Revenue Growth

Group revenue increased by 18.6% to €5.1 billion in Q1 2025 compared to €4.3 billion in Q1 2024, reflecting robust demand and effective capacity management.

Profitability Enhancements

The Group’s EBITDA rose to €1,048 million from €868 million, and EBIT grew to €463 million from €363 million year-over-year, showcasing improved operational efficiency and cost management.

Liner Shipping Segment Performance

The Liner Shipping segment achieved an EBITDA of €1,014 million and an EBIT of €448 million in Q1 2025, up from €835 million and €348 million respectively in Q1 2024, driven by an 8.8% increase in transport volume and higher freight rates.

Strategic Partnerships and Network Expansion

On February 1, Hapag-Lloyd launched the "Gemini Cooperation" with Maersk, aiming for a schedule reliability of at least 90%. This new network covers major East-West trades and met its reliability target within the first two months.

Terminal & Infrastructure Developments

The Terminal & Infrastructure segment reported an EBITDA of €34 million and an EBIT of €14 million. In March 2025, the company secured a 60% stake in CNMP LH, enhancing its strategic presence in the French market.

Financial Strength

Earnings per share increased to €2.51 from €1.67 in the prior year period. The Group also maintained strong liquidity with a net liquidity of €940 million as of March 31, 2025, up from €910 million at the end of December 2024.
